These photos were taken by Dave & Sharon near their RV Park in Fernley, Nevada. All of the photos were taken on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Indian Reservation. The first two photos were taken in Wadworth of a school house and of a bridge in autumn beauty. The next four photos were taken around the lake. While driving on the east side of the lake heading toward Stone Mother, we discovered this stone house built into the rocky hillside. Unfortunately, every dirt road that led down to the lake required a tribal permit which we did not have. This was the only problem with trying to take photos of this beautiful lake, it was all accessed by permit only. The last two photos were of taken of the lake.
We read the sad tale in the visitor center regarding the Indian War that took place near this lake. Two Indian girls were abused by white traders, so the Indians killed the two white men. News of an uprising reached Sparks, NV and a mob of 100 men took off to teach the Indians a lesson. A battle ensured and 70 white men were killed. They retreated and called out the Army who drove the Indians from their native land. Forced from their fishing grounds, about half of the tribe starved because of no food. They were fishermen and used the trout they caught in the lake to be their main food source. Driven from their land, the Indians started to raid the ranches for cattle to stay alive. The Army tiring of this kind of warefare asked for a truce. The Indians believed the white man would honor their truce and came back to their land only to find that they were lied too and the tribe members were shipped off to Oregon and Washington, again about half starved to death during the move. Again, the Indian had experienced another broken promise by the white man and again the Indians died because of those broken promises.
